Since you asked

Filed under: misc — Duchess @ 3:57 pm

Okay, Jan asked. So here is my little grandson, four months and a day old when the picture was taken last week in Seattle, just before I left for the airport.

The Duchess and her grandson

Little Julian and Big Julie

Young Julian is doing well, thank you, and giving his parents exactly enough bother to make his grandparents smile and remember that revenge is sweet.

I maintain that he is a particularly pretty baby. One school of thought declares that I am biased, which might just be possible. Or we could simply agree that he is not only unusually attractive, but also shows signs of extraordinary intelligence.

Here, he looks almost as cute, though perhaps a wee bit more gormless. Nevertheless, as I have tidy hair for a change, I thought I would post this picture too.

Nona and Julian.

Nona and Julian.

The gentleman is 4 months old and the lady is 55.  When he is in her arms she thinks she is a young woman again

  1. I am stunned. Are you Nona? My maternal grandmother is Nona – even spelled the same. I have never encountered anyone else who, as a grandmother, called herself Nona or anyone whose grandmother was called Nona. My Nona is the best grandmother anyone could hope for.
I wanted to call myself Nona when Little Guy was born, and was voted out by Jolly and Beloved. I guess I have to settle for Grandma, and I admit I am so enamored with my new grandson he could call me “Hey, You” and I’d be tickled.
I think your little namesake is not only an extremely beautiful baby, but you can tell, yes, he is extraordinarily intelligent as well; he takes after his Nona.
    You are cool beyond words.

  3. Congrats! He is a cutie! And I agree with Jan – I would have guessed the first picture was mother and son!

  7. Well, thank you all. You are very kind about both of us. I can assure you I made them take a zillion pictures so I could find two where I looked nice (and Julian did not have his hand in his mouth).
Jan, my daughter-in-law is Argentinian. I asked her what they call grannies there and she said, “Nona”. I thought it was a pretty name. Was your grandmother Spanish or of Spanish heritage? I know Italian children often call their granny Nana, but so do northern children in the UK — that is what my ex husband called his grandmother. I am not sure where it comes from.
