Not so much empty nest as fled the nest — after 30 years an expatriot on a small island, I am temporarily back on a much smaller one in my native country. 

While I was away I raised four kids, had a novel published, worked like a mad woman, got introduced to the Queen (twice, because, unaccountably, Her Majesty didn’t know me the second time), and ran a marathon. That sort of stuff might come up now and again. 

If the blog lasts (and the ether permits) it might just take me back to the canal boat in England, where I am a some time resident, or to Uganda where my elder daughter works with the VSO (that’s the Brit Peace Corps).
